Dear Friends,
As we come to the end of another year it gives me an opportunity to take stock of what has been happening at the Center. In 2006 a new group of Gyuto monks joined us; Gen Tanam, Gen Gonpo, Gen Norbu (his second time with us) and Khensur Ngawang Jorden Rinpoche. It is a special honor to have Rinpoche with us, as not only is he the most recent Abbot of Gyuto, but the youngest ever appointed by His Holiness in Gyuto's 500 year history. As a result we have had a rich program of teachings and events. Also in 2006 I led a pilgrimage to the Buddhist holy places of India.
The big news of 2006, and as a result the major event on our 2007 calendar, is that we have received official notification that the Gyuto Vajrayana Center's request to host His Holiness the Dalai Lama has been approved. His Holiness will be giving a teaching on Lama Tsongkapa's text, "In Praise of Dependent Origination", on Friday, April 27th and Saturday, April 28th, 2007 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in downtown San Francisco. Preliminary information for the teachings is on our HHDL event website, www.dalailamabay2007.com. Complete details will be available in the new year. I am sure I will see many of you at the teachings.
Ven. Khensur Ngawang Jorden Rinpoche will be giving a series of five Sunday evening classes as an introduction to the subject of Dependent Origination in preparation for His Holiness’s teaching in April 2007. Everyone is welcome to attend these classes. The schedule for these classes and all Gyuto events are on our website, www.gyutocenter.org
For the first time in six years the Gyuto Monks Tantric Choir will tour America. This is set to coincide with His Holiness’ visit. All tour information is on our website.
On behalf of the monks and Rinpoche I hope that all of you and your families and friends will have a very enjoyable holiday and that you will all have a very healthy and successful 2007.
