Dr. Thupten Jinpa has been a principal English translator to His Holiness the Dalai Lama since 1985. He was born in Tibet in 1958 and trained as a monk at Zongkar Chode Monastery in southern India. Dr. Jinpa also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Western Philosophy and a Ph.D. in Religious Studies, both from Cambridge University, UK, where he also worked as a research fellow for three years.

Dr. Jinpa has accompanied His Holiness as his translator to the United States, Canada, and Europe. He has translated and edited many books by the Dalai Lama, including the recent New York Time’s bestseller Ethics for the New Millennium.
