Ven. Jampa Asks to Retire His Hard Hat

The Over 400-year-old System of Gyuto Monastery

In the traditional organizational structure of the Gyuto Monastery there is an Abbot, a Vice Abbot and five managers who are elected by the monks and serve 3 year terms. Of the five managers, two run the office, one manages the carpet factory, one manages the kitchen and stores and one is the liaison with the outside world. In this system Ven. Jampa served two terms (6 years) as Office Manager. However the monastery had no knowledge of construction and so two special posts were created to build the Monastery and its infrastructure. Ven. Jampa was given one of those roles. The basic facilities were built in 2 years. In his spare time he also worked on other special projects for the Monastery.
