The Gyuto Vajrayana Center is a branch Monastery of the Gyuto Tantric Monastic University in India and is the only Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in San Jose. It was founded in 2001 by Ven. Thupten Donyo, a senior Gyuto monk, with the intent of bringing the tantric traditions of the Gyuto Monastery to the Bay Area. After arriving in San Jose in 1998, Ven. Donyo received a great deal of support from friends of the Gyuto Monastery and the local Buddhist community to fulfill his wish to set up a branch monastery of Gyuto in San Jose, California.

With a growing base of members from which the Dharma can flourish, Ven. Donyo wishes to establish a traditional Tibetan Monastery and continue provide free teachings of the Buddha and support the Tibetan community in the San Francisco Bay Area. We would like to request that all of our members and friends pray for us to fulfil our goal building permanent monastery GyutoProject.org for the Gyuto Center by 2015 or sonner. More information.

Thank you.

Gyuto Center's prayer wheel

In order to preserve the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the Center invites highly qualified teachers and monks from India and provides teachings on Sutra and Tantra. As well as teachings, the Center organizes initiations, empowerments, prayer ceremonies, funeral services, house blessings and purifications. The resident teacher also gives private audiences for personal and spiritual advice. We also reach out not only to the different schools of Tibetan Buddhism but also to Buddhist practitioners of every nationality.  The Center will provide a spiritual base for the local Tibetan and Mongolian Communities.  The Center intends reaching out into the local neighborhood and offering support to those in need.

Ven. Donyo’s message to his Dharma Friends:
“I thank all of our Dharma friends for being very generous and kind to the monks and the monastery.
